A car travels around a circular bend at constant speed. Explain why the car is accelerating.

Student answer

Because the direction of the car is changing as it goes round the bend.

Examiner note: Direction changing earns the first mark. The second mark needs the word velocity — velocity is a vector, so a change in direction is a change in velocity, and acceleration is the rate of change of velocity.
